What if Christians have misunderstood Jesus' most famous sermon for two thousand years?
Be perfect. Love your enemies. Never worry. Turn the other cheek. Pluck out your eye.
For centuries, Christians have treated the Sermon on the Mount as a blueprint for living. But have you ever read Jesus' words and wondered how you could possibly measure up? Have you tried harder, promised to do better, and still felt like you're falling short?
What if the problem isn't that you haven't tried hard enough, but that we've misunderstood what Jesus was really saying?
In The Impossible Teachings of Jesus, bestselling author and pastor Andrew Farley makes a startling claim: We've turned Jesus' most shocking commands into a religious rulebook he never intended.
The Sermon on the Mount isn't difficult. It's impossible. And that's good news.
Farley turns centuries of conventional thinking upside down, revealing why Jesus' impossible commands were never intended as a self-improvement plan. Instead, they expose the limits of human effort and point us toward something far better: the freedom of God's grace.
With clarity, humor, and fresh biblical insights, Farley explores what Jesus' words meant before the cross and why misunderstanding them can leave us trapped in guilt, pressure, and the exhausting feeling that we're never doing enough.
Discover why:
- Jesus commanded perfection when he knew no one could achieve it
- Trying harder isn't the secret to living more like Jesus
- The Sermon on the Mount points to freedom instead of endless religious striving
What if the teachings that made you feel like a failure were actually meant to set you free?
You don't need another spiritual checklist. You need to discover what Jesus was really saying. His impossible teachings may be the best news you've ever heard--not because of what you can do for God, but because of what Jesus has already done for you.
