"Cereal & Serious"
A Fun Way to Spark Meaningful Conversations
At the recent Exponential Conference in Orlando, Florida and the Kerygma Summit in Franklin, Tennessee, Eric launched a creative way to engage attendees and authors. He calls it “Cereal and Serious.”
The concept?
Start with a lighthearted “cereal” question to break the ice and create a connection with your audience. Lisa Harper is confident that Cinnamon Toast Crunch “will be served in Glory!”
Then transition into a deeper, “serious” question about ministry or faith.
How You Can Steal This Idea:
Eric also uses this approach with his youth group, and it works for any setting—small groups, leadership meetings, or even social media. Try it in your ministry:
- Start with a fun, easy question (“What’s the best cereal ever?” or “Pancakes or waffles?”)
- Then shift to something deeper (“What’s one thing God has been teaching you lately?” or “What’s been your biggest ministry challenge?”)
- Encourage participation—this format makes it easier for people to open up and engage.
Sometimes, big conversations start with simple questions. How could you use "Cereal & Serious" in your church? 🍽️📖
